CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. -- The Jefferson County Board of Education (JCBOE) voted to adopt a policy to make masking in school optional during their regular meeting last night. The new policy goes into effect on Monday, Feb. 21, 2022. Jefferson County Schools staff will be observing the universal masking policy through the rest of this week. There will be no penalty for students who choose to remove their masks. A change in guidance from the WVDE and WVDHHR prompted board members to reconsider the original policy, which was adopted to minimize quarantine. The latest guidance gives Jefferson County Schools the flexibility to continue in-person learning while letting families choose whether to wear a mask. Complete guidance will be released on Monday when the new policy takes effect.
