National Arts in Education Week celebrates the value of the arts in our schools and classrooms. #BecauseOfArtsEd, our students often have the opportunity to participate in arts-inspired events and showcases at the regional, state, and national levels. That's right, and our PERC is already working hard to organize activities to help connect our students across the district. Dear JCS Families: Jefferson County Schools puts the safety of students and staff first. With temperatures expected this week to reach the mid to upper 90’s, we are taking proactive steps to prevent heat-related illnesses. That means limiting outdoor activities at elementary, middle, and high schools when a heat advisory or warning is in place for Jefferson County. Limitations apply to any physical education classes, outdoor classrooms, field trips, and recess activities. For athletics, we will follow WVSSAC guidelines and consult with certified athletic trainers and medical doctors before making a final decision about practice or games. Current guidelines include safety measures such as practicing without pads, eliminating conditioning activities, moving indoors, or limiting practice time. We recognize the importance of providing appropriate practice time and games and will do what we can to ensure our student-athletes can prepare and compete safely. Schedule changes will be communicated as quickly as possible to limit potential disruption to students and families. We appreciate your support of our students.

A reminder that Jefferson County Schools will be closed on Monday, September 4, in observance of Labor Day. We hope everyone is enjoying their long weekend!

There's still time to visit the Stuff-A-Bus drop-off location at the Jefferson County Fair and donate school supplies for our students! Donations will continue to be collected this evening from 5-8 p.m. and on Saturday from 12-4 p.m. Thanks to the organizers and volunteers at the JCS Transportation Department for being available this week to collect these much-needed supplies!
The first week of school is in the books, and teachers and students have been spending time getting to know each other. Students in Ms. Long's class drew self-portraits that also showed their personal interests. North Jefferson has some pretty creative students with lots of interesting talents and interests.

It's the first day of a new school year, and buses are back on the road! Remember to be patient and use extra caution while driving today, especially in residential areas and school zones. A big THANK YOU to our bus drivers for keeping our students safe as they travel to and from school! 🚌

It's opening day for the Jefferson County Fair - come out and support our 4-H, FFA, and FCCLA students!
The start of a new school year means sharing the road. Please keep the following safety tips in mind when buses start rolling on Monday. We can't wait to see you then!
🚌 Be alert and watch for children, especially near schools, bus stops, school buses, and school parking lots.
🚌 Motorists are required to stop when approaching a school bus that is stopped with its red lights flashing and STOP arms extended. NEVER pass a bus from behind when it is stopped to board or offload children.
🚌 Be especially careful when children are present in school zones and residential areas.
🚌 Pay extra attention to lower speed limits in school zones.
🚌 Watch for and obey signals from school crossing guards.
🚌Only drive or park in authorized areas to drop off or pick up children at school.
Wrapping up back-to-school shopping this weekend? Consider including a few items for the JCS Stuff-a-Bus school supply drive! Volunteers from the JCS Transportation Department will be on hand throughout the next week to collect donations of backpacks, crayons, pens and pencils, lunch boxes, notebooks, and other necessary school supplies. Special thanks to City National Bank for being our community partner in this annual event to serve JCS families in need!

🚌 City National Bank at The Potomac Marketplace (Ranson location) on Saturday, August 19 from 8 a.m. - Noon, and 🚌 The Jefferson County Fair, weekdays, August 21-25 from 5-8 p.m., and Saturday, August 15 from 12-4 p.m.
North Jefferson's staff welcomed back students at its annual Back to School Night. Students in Mrs. Nugent's Kindergarten class toured the school with a fun scavenger hunt. We're looking forward to having our North Jefferson family all back together again!
Join the JCS Parent and Educator Resources Center (PERC) and Department of Special Programs this Saturday, August 19, for a day of fun and learning with our local first responders! Meet Jefferson County firefighters and police officers, explore their vehicles, participate in fire safety games, and more at this family-friendly event. Families can also access important resources like missing children packets and fire safety information. Plus, enjoy a DJ and food trucks! We're excited to welcome 12 new international teachers to JCS as we continue preparations for the upcoming school year! Current international staff members were on-hand to greet and assist with the orientation of these new educators, who hail from Jamaica, Zimbabwe, and the Philippines through our partnership with Educational Partners International.
