Reading superheroes ruled the hallways of South Jefferson on Day 2 of Read Across America Week! 💫⚡️
Read Across America Week has already started off well! Day one: “Reading is Cozy” had our students in pjs, reading to their stuffies throughout the day. Fun!
Our 2nd graders had a visit from Mrs. Johnson, 4-H and Youth Development Agent from the WVU Extension Service. She brought in Ozobots and the students learned how to utilize coding to move their creation throughout the space. As you can see, it was A LOT of fun! Thank you to Mrs. Johnson! We are grateful for your time and planning these types of activities!
Mrs. Siddoway’s PreK and Mrs. Sunday’s 4th grade classes collaborated today on a fun learning journey together. Pre-K is just beginning their light unit study and had the opportunity to visit the 4th graders and have the 4th grade students teach them about circuits and lights. Our 4th graders explained what they have learned and were so patient and kind with our youngest learners! What a cool experience for everyone!
This is the face of a hard-working and patient student. Fourth grader, Tahlia Underwood, was nominated for a Positive Principal Referral for remaining cool under pressure when she kept encountering computer problems during an important assessment. She didn’t give up and she kept her focus and growth mindset, as she rose above the technological challenges. Tahlia was “grace under pressure” and deserves this recognition! Way to go, Tahlia!
Congratulations to fourth grader, Jeremiah Breeden, for his Positive Principal Referral. Jeremiah was nominated by his teacher for his incredible work ethic and for putting his academics first. Jeremiah is new to SJES this year and we are grateful that he is bringing this mindset and focus to our school!

Due to the forecasted inclement weather, all Jefferson County Schools extracurricular activities taking place on Saturday, February 17, 2024, are canceled. This includes extracurricular activities, athletic practices, and competitions taking place at home or away. The Regional Wrestling Tournament at Jefferson High School is rescheduled for 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 18. All other rescheduled activities will be communicated at a later date.

Jefferson County Schools joins the Wildwood Middle School community in mourning the passing of Principal Jodi R. Brock, a dedicated and valued member of the WMS staff since 2008. WMS will honor Ms. Brock's memory with a candlelight vigil on Thursday, February 15, at 6:30 p.m. in the front bus loop of the school. If you plan to attend, please enter at the WMS parent entrance and park in the side or back parking lots. If those lots become full, overflow traffic may park at Jefferson High School.

Monday, February 5, marked the 100th day of school at JCS, and students across the district had fun celebrating this exciting milestone! Many dressed up as 100-year-old centenarians, while South Jefferson Elementary students took a different path, celebrating the theme “We Are 100 Days Brighter” by wearing neon or otherwise brightly colored clothes. As a culminating activity to finish up their study of electricity, Ms. Slagle’s 4th grade students created circuits that they could take home and share with their families. Each student was working to complete a working series and parallel circuit while practicing related vocabulary terms including resistor, transfer, conductor, and insulator. Well done! 🗳️⚡️🔌🔋
