Many thanks to Mrs. Johnson, who brought an amazing STEAM lesson to SJES! Our second graders made battle bot robots and had to see which one stayed upright the longest as they battled to knock each other’s over, using sphero balls. They loved it!!! 💜🤖

Mrs. Fox’s Kindergarten class took advantage of the beautiful weather today and played Knock Out- Addition Edition! Students threw the dice and had to total what the two dice landed on. First to yell the answer wins! Fun!!!

Way to go, Fiona Walsh, Lizzy Bowman, Spencer Devaney (3rd place, Earth & Environmental Science), Lilly Carter (2nd place, Animal Science), Maddie Kline (3rd place, Chemistry) and Louise Grantham (3rd place, Plant Science). We are very proud of your accomplishments!

Congratulations to our SJES Math Field Day teams for representing our school and giving 100% today at the Jefferson County Math Field Day competition. Our 5th grade team (Tyson Stuntz, Maddie Kline, Noah Sunday and Natalie Leach) placed 2nd place in the County, with Maddie placing individually and moving on to the Regional competition. Our fourth grade team (Troy Fultz, Lizzy Tuitele, Andrew Vigil and Jackson Williams) were neck-in-neck to place and represented us well! Super proud of both teams and our coaches, Mr. Collins and Ms. Slagle.

Congratulations to fifth grader, Tyson Stuntz, for earning a Positive Office Referral. Tyson saw that the hallway was a mess after recess with students tracking mud in from the playground (if you know, you know!). He took it upon himself to sweep the hallway at dismissal, as well as a fifth grade classroom! Well done, Tyson! We are super proud that you are a SJES Roadrunner!

Congratulations to Hunter Micelli and Damien O’Banion for their Positive Principal Referral nominations. Damien was nominated for challenging himself in math and “asking for extra work” to hone his skills in math. Hunter was nominated for always helping out in the classroom “on his own” and supporting his classmates and teacher. Both excellent role models for all of us at South Jefferson! Well done, gentlemen!

What a great day for South Jefferson at the Jefferson County Science Fair! Our students represented us well and did a phenomenal job in creating and presenting their projects. This was the first year that elementary students were invited to present at the County level. We placed from Honorable Mention to First Place in multiple categories and some will move on to the Regional Fair in a few weeks! Well done, South Jefferson! I am very proud of you and your accomplishments!

Ms. Horne and Mrs. Bass’ kindergarten class began a new unit on Kings and Queens this week. Our kindergartners were officially declared “princes” and “princesses” and are learning about royal life through nursery rhymes and stories.

Happy New Year! We look forward to welcoming students back from break on Tuesday, January 3.
