Did someone say pumpkin patch??? What a wonderful day for our kindergarten students and their families at Orr’s Farm! Our students had many fun experiences on their trip, including selecting their very own pumpkin to take home. 🎃
Happy Fall from the kindergarten class!

Congratulations to Stephen Livengood and Brayden Braithwaite for their Positive Principal Referrals. Both awesome young men have taken the time to help others and to be exceptional role models in and out of the classroom. We are super proud of both of you!

In recognition of National School Lunch Week, we want to express our sincere gratitude to the men and women serving as cooks in our school cafeterias who keep our students fed, focused, and ready to learn. Thank you for the important role you play in supporting their success!

Mrs. Fox’s Kindergarten class had the pleasure of a visit by former student and pumpkin patch entrepreneur, August Ware, who talked to the class about the process of growing and maintaining his pumpkin patch, which has grown to an acre. If you’re not following August’s Pumpkins on Facebook, you should be! What an impressive young man! Thank you, August, for always sharing your expertise with us!

Congratulations to Douglas Hare and Gabriella Silva on their recent Positive Principal Referrals. Both students were nominated for going above and beyond to help someone else. That kindness and thinking of others DEFINITELY needs to be recognized and celebrated!

A reminder that Jefferson County Schools will dismiss two hours early today, October 6, for faculty senate meetings.

It's National Principals Month, and we're celebrating Ms. Mahoney! We're so grateful for her dedication, determination, and commitment to our students and staff. Thank you for being the guiding light in our school!

Ms. Horne’s Kindergarten class finished their CKLA unit with extended readings of Otis and the Scarecrow and Otis and the Tornado. The class discussed Morals/ lessons in stories - making friends, showing others kindness, and understanding and including others when playing or doing activities. Shout out to parent volunteer, Mrs. Reimer, who visited our class and helped the students to complete their own scarecrow project. Awesome way to end the week!

Mrs. Zimmerman’s Kindergarten class celebrated all things APPLE, in honor of Johnny Appleseed’s birthday! Cheers to apple cider, apple graphing, apple math and apple shapes! 🍎

As National Attendance Awareness Month comes to a close, we want to thank our JCS students and families for making it a priority to practice good school attendance! Don't forget submissions for our district-wide attendance poster contest are due this Friday, September 29 - visit www.jcswv.org/attendance for contest details. And keep up the good work! Remember… students who miss fewer than nine days of school see better grades, stay on track to graduate high school, and even have better work habits. That's why Attendance Matters: All Day, Every Day!

JCS Superintendent Dr. Chuck Bishop speaks at the Charles Town and Shepherdstown Rotary Clubs during a lunch on Wednesday. Dr. Bishop will connect with students and the community again during a series of events in the coming months. Visit www.jcswv.org/events for details!

In celebration of Johnny Appleseed’s birthday on September 26th, Mrs. Fox’s kindergarten class had an apple celebration, complete with taste testing, measurements, graphing favorites, apple stem activity, apple stamping, and other games.
The class also had to figure out how tall Mrs. Fox was in apples! Check out their mosaic artwork! 😁🙌🏼🎨🍎

Are you interested in volunteering your time, for about a 1/2 hour a week? We have many students who need a listening ear, a friend or support in school. We would love to have you! P.S. We can work around YOUR schedule. 😁
Please consider. I promise that, if you volunteer for us, it will mean more to you in the long run. Giving back and impacting our students makes your heart happy. I promise. 😉

We're proud to recognize and celebrate West Virginia School Service Personnel Day! Our service personnel play an essential role in every aspect of our JCS community, including: ✅ The bus drivers and mechanics who ensure the safe transport of our students ✅ The aides who offer vital assistance in the classroom ✅ The cooks who provide nutritious meals for students and staff ✅ The custodians who keep our schools clean and orderly ✅ The maintenance staff who keep our schools and facilities running safely ✅ And the secretaries who provide crucial administrative support. We offer our most sincere gratitude to these individuals for all they do. THANK YOU!

Did you know that practicing good attendance not only helps high school students stay on track to graduate but also increases their chances of earning a college degree and being successful in their jobs? We all prosper when our students gain the skills and abilities necessary to help them contribute to their communities. As we continue to recognize National Attendance Awareness Month, visit www.jcswv.org/attendance to learn more about why Attendance Matters: All Day, Every Day!
