A big shout out to third-grader, Benjamin Keysor, the latest recipient of a Positive Principal Referral. Ben was working in class and a fellow classmate dropped everything on the floor. Ben came to the rescue, without hesitation, and helped with everything—including picking up every single crayon. That’s the kind of friend we all need! Way to be a kind and helpful role model, Ben! Super proud of you! 💜💛 Ms. Mahoney

Here’s a “feel good” post for our SJES community. Over the summer, 4th grader, Jace Moreno, decided to devote his energy and extra time towards helping our school as part of his 4-H project. He took it upon himself, along with help from his family, to clean our trail that surrounds the school property and borders Pembroke Grove, a neighboring subdivision. It has always been a goal of mine to partner with Pembroke Grove, to develop an alternative evacuation route for our school in the event of an emergency. Jace took my vision and HIS goal to give back to SJES and worked to clear the trail and to create authentic trail markers that could guide us to safety. We were able to meet with members of the community and develop a safety plan with their assistance. To say that I am proud of Jace is an understatement. He worked so hard and did a phenomenal job. My gratitude knows no bounds. Today, Jace’s 4th grade class walked the trail and spent time enjoying the space together. The trail is a beautiful place that has multiple paths and an area of picnic tables that can be used as an outdoor classroom. Jace’s class took their learning outside and enjoyed the time in nature together. Thank you, Jace, for being a LITERAL trailblazer at South Jefferson Elementary! We are all going to enjoy our trail this year because of your support and hard work. 💜💛 Ms. Mahoney #TheWorldIsOurClassroom #BackToNature

The start of a new school year means sharing the road. Please keep the following safety tips in mind when buses start rolling on Monday. We can't wait to see you then! 🚌 Be alert and watch for children, especially near schools, bus stops, school buses, and school parking lots. 🚌 Motorists are required to stop when approaching a school bus that is stopped with its red lights flashing and STOP arms extended. NEVER pass a bus from behind when it is stopped to board or offload children. 🚌 Be especially careful when children are present in school zones and residential areas. 🚌 Pay extra attention to lower speed limits in school zones. 🚌 Watch for and obey signals from school crossing guards. 🚌Only drive or park in authorized areas to drop off or pick up children at school.
