Mr. Alexander's science classes explored the flow of energy, potential and kinetic energy by building catapults to launch an assault on a castle and its knights. The students built a catapult and had six attempts to earn points, observing launch patterns and adjusting trajectories and catapult tension after launches. Points were earned for hitting the castle, landing in the castle and knocking over knights. Lots of great learning and fun! Good job, Mustangs!

WMS held the school- base Science Fair last week. Students used the Scientific Method to ask a question, do research, make a hypothesis, test with an experiment and analyze data to draw conclusions on a variety of topics. The Fair was their opportunity to communicate the results to an audience. Members of the community served as judges, listening to the presentations, asking questions and offering feedback. The projects showed great scientific thinking and reasoning. The poise and knowledge with which the students presented their conclusions was impressive. Well done, Mustangs!

❄️ We hear you, JCS families! Going forward, we’ll make weather-related robocalls until 9PM, giving you more time to plan for the following day. If a decision isn’t made the night before, all notifications will go out by 6AM the following morning. A quick reminder: safety is our top priority! When snow is in the forecast, we closely monitor weather and road conditions with local and state agencies to ensure safe travel. We aim to make all decisions the night before, but if needed, our team checks conditions early in the morning to determine if a delay or closure is needed. Read more about this process here 👉 https://www.jcswv.org/page/delays-and-closings. Thanks for your understanding as we prioritize safety for everyone! 🌨️🚍

Six juniors and seniors from Jefferson and Washington High Schools have joined the third district cohort of the Grow Your Own Program, created by the WV Department of Education. This week they shadowed teachers at Page Jackson Elementary, Wildwood Middle, and Charles Town Middle, gaining valuable classroom experience. The Grow Your Own program allows students to fast-track their path to becoming K-12 educators through dual enrollment at Shepherd University. A great step toward building the future of teaching and education in our community! 👏✨

Ms. Asper's World Studies class learned about Diwali this week. Diwali is the Hindu festival of lights. The holiday is a five day five day long festival called the "Festival of Lights" . It symbolizes the beginning of the new year and the spiritual victory of lightness over darkness. The classes designed a Diwali candle and wrote wish for the new year. Nice work, Mustangs!

WMS students got into the STEM math boxes in their WVTSS classes this Friday. Depending on the activity, students made catapults to launch tiny pumpkins, built spiderweb bridges out of tape and yard and tested the load bearing capacity or chose a challenge to build the tallest tower out of marshmallows and toothpicks. Divergent and creative thinking, teamwork and fun- all in one! Nice work, Mustangs!
