Jefferson County Schools students who will be juniors or seniors in the 2024-2025 school year may apply for the MedEd Program.
A $4.7 million grant awarded to the Education Alliance for their new CAREERS (Career Acceleration Readiness and Employment Experiences for Region Students) project is funding the project.
The MedEd program is a partnership between Jefferson County Schools, WVU Medicine, and Blue Ridge Community and Technical College that gives students a direct career path to the healthcare industry.
Successful applicants will receive real-world training as a Laboratory Technician, Medical Assisting, or Radiology Technician on site through WVU Medicine East and participate in a paid internship their senior year.
Juniors and seniors at Jefferson and Washington High Schools can contact their school counselor to learn more about the FREE program!
Students will take two courses at Blue Ridge CTC during their junior and senior years.
Students will have the ability to take their certification exam at the end of the program.
The Appalachian Regional Commission’s (ARC) Appalachian Regional Initiative for Stronger Economies (ARISE) provided the funding that benefits the Education Alliance and 10 local partners in West Virginia and Mississippi to help fill workforce needs in manufacturing and healthcare sectors by accelerating career education and training for underserved high school students seeking careers in these fields.
