Jefferson High School's Cari Jubb has been named the West Virginia School Counselor Association’s (WVSCA) 2023-2024 High School Counselor of the Year! This honor recognizes her unwavering dedication to helping students succeed both in school and in life.
To those who know her, Jubb is much more than a school counselor—she’s a steady, supportive presence for students, staff, and families alike. Her impact is felt throughout the school as she guides students through challenges, helps them plan for the future, and collaborates closely with parents and teachers to ensure their success.
JHS school nurse Amanda Sites, who has worked with Jubb for over 15 years, calls her an invaluable asset to the school.
"She'll drop whatever she's doing if a student needs her," Sites said. "She's calm, level-headed, and always finds a solution."
Sites believes that Jubb’s steady, thoughtful approach is what truly sets her apart as a counselor. She remains patient and takes the time to carefully consider the best ways to support her students.
"She really invests in the kids and makes them feel important," said Sites.
Debra Delauney, the school's registrar, has known Jubb for 20 years and admires her ability to connect with both students and parents, while also excelling in the administrative aspects of her role.
"Cari is absolutely wonderful, especially in her ability to listen to the students," Delauney said. "She's also a great liaison between the students and their parents."
Jubb was honored for her achievement at the 2025 West Virginia School Counselor Association Conference in March. She accepted the award on behalf of the entire JHS counseling team—including Comet, the school’s therapy dog—emphasizing their shared dedication to supporting students.
"This is really about our whole team," Jubb said. "We just do what we can for the kids every day."
As part of this recognition, Jubb is also in the running to represent West Virginia in the national School Counselor of the Year program. Her kindness, dedication, and hard work have made a lasting difference for the students and staff at JHS, and the entire school community celebrates this well-deserved recognition.
