The scores have been tallied, and the winners are in! Congratulations to the individual and team champions of the district-wide Math Field Day competition at the high school level. Jefferson High School took the team title in the 9th Grade category, while Washington High School's team won for 10th-12th Grade. Individual first-place winners included Santiago Smith (JHS) for 9th Grade and Megan Brady (WHS) for 10th-12th Grade. The top three individual winners from 4th through 12th grade will now advance to the regional competition on March 11 at WVU Potomac State College. First responders serve our community and help people in need, often spending hours away from their families in the process. This week, Washington High School FFA members honored and thanked them by delivering dinner to police stations and firehouses around Jefferson County as part of National FFA Week. Students delivered over sixty meals to staff and volunteers at the Charles Town Police Department, Ranson Police Department, Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, Citizens Fire Company, Independent Fire Company, and Middleway Volunteer Fire Company. Thank you to these local heroes for being the backbone of our community! 💙💛

The Jefferson High School Pop Singers recently rocked out in the Rock 'n' Roll Capital of the World! The ensemble traveled to Cleveland, OH, for the Northcoast Show Choir Invitational, where they made finals and placed fourth overall. JHS was the only school to represent West Virginia in the competition. The group also made a stop at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, where a few students enjoyed an impromptu jam session at The Garage. Rock on, Cougars!

Jefferson County Schools joins the Wildwood Middle School community in mourning the passing of Principal Jodi R. Brock, a dedicated and valued member of the WMS staff since 2008. WMS will honor Ms. Brock's memory with a candlelight vigil on Thursday, February 15, at 6:30 p.m. in the front bus loop of the school. This year marks the seventh time since 2011 that the ensemble has received the prestigious designation, the highest statewide achievement a high school band can attain. Kindergarteners at North Jefferson Elementary School were feeling the love this Valentine's Day thanks to letters from across the country and around the world! Mrs. Nugent's kindergarten class is participating in a project called Hearts Around the World with the hope of receiving at least one Valentine from each of the fifty states. So far, they've received 84 letters and packages from 41 states, plus Canada, Kenya, Australia, Thailand, and Puerto Rico! Ms. Nugent says her students look forward to opening and reading their sweet messages each day as they continue the project through the end of this month. 💝
